Description
Community Service July 2025 - 7/3 Membership drive 6 members 24 hours ran VFW information table at local business. Talked to veterans in the community about VFW membership.  Coffee with a veteran - 7/2 14 members 28 hours 7/9 14 members 28 hours 7/16 9 members 18 hours 7/23 12 members 24 hours 7/30 15 members 30 hours. The Post opens our doors on Wednesday mornings to the community for coffee and light snacks donuts. Guests include community leaders business leaders religious organization leadership first responders and public workers. Discussions include ways to help each other out and help provide positive contributions to the local community. 7/29 Therapy dog visit to Taylor Adult Behavioral Health 1 member 4 hours. Aided therapy for those transitioning back into society from long term hospital care and addiction recovery to empower patients to regain self-sufficiency leading to an independent and productive lifestyle.  7/3 7/5  Support for a grant to RWJ Barnabas Health Institute for a grant from the Staff Sergeant Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program. Provided administrative work to include letters of support and grant application guidance to acquire the grant. Secured the grant for Ocean County veterans and families. 2 members 4 hours.  7/17 Represented the VFW Post at the Communities That Care meeting. Communities that Care coalition brings together youth parents schools and community agencies to improve youth health and wellbeing. 1 member 2 hours. 7/18 Mental Health First Aid Training at RWJ Barnabas Health. Training to provide counseling and support to veterans and families. 1 member 7 hours. 7/18 Hospital visit at Southern Ocean County Medical Center to provide emotional support and camaraderie to veteran patients. 1 member 1.5 hours. 7/28 7/29 Research to help and peer to peer counseling for a veteran experiencing PTSD. The help was requested by a local clergy member for a veteran she was counseling. 1 member 4.5 hours.
